DAVE GREENSPAN ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR
CUYAHOGA COUNTY COUNCIL, DISTRICT 1
Focuses on Integrity,
Economic Development and Job Growth
Westlake, OH March 15,
2010 – Dave
Greenspan formally announced his candidacy for the District 1, Cuyahoga
County Council seat today. After the approval of the Issue 6 reform
campaign last Fall, Greenspan realized the best way he could contribute to
the success of the new governing body and
revitalization of his community was to serve as the representative
for District 1. “We’ve had some challenges here locally over the
last few years, and last Fall the people of Cuyahoga County clearly stated
that we needed new leadership to move the county forward. By
representing the 1st District, I will strive to ensure the
Council stays focused on the issues that matter most,” says Greenspan.
Greenspan states that it is time to return integrity, ethics
and fiscal responsibility to county government. “The people of District 1
deserve someone who will focus on the important issues of integrity in
government, economic development, job creation and efficient management of
the county’s resources. As their representative on the Council,
that’s what I am committed to doing.”
District 1 consists of Bay Village, Fairview Park, North
Olmsted, Rocky River, Westlake, and Olmsted Township. Greenspan, a
resident of Westlake, is a forward looking, sensibly-minded candidate with
experience that will benefit his district. Prior to moving to
Westlake from the Atlanta, Georgia metropolitan area, Greenspan served as
a charter city Councilmember for the City of Sandy Springs, Georgia.
With 85,000 residents this became the largest municipality to incorporate
from the ground-up in the United States. This new formed government
body, was able to increase services, attract businesses, and significantly
improve the quality of life for the residents – all without increasing
taxes. As a member of the first city council, Dave was involved in all
aspects of founding the city of 85,000 people while helping to manage an
$85 million budget. His background in corporate finance along with his
innovative thought process helped lay the foundation for the city to
create its first fund balance reserve policy which has led to a
substantial financial surplus today. Greenspan's belief in
financial, operational, and administrative efficiencies aided the city in
increased utilization of city facilities, and create a unique
public-private partnership for the delivery of city services at a
significant savings.
Shortly after arriving in Westlake to take on a new job,
Greenspan’s natural disposition to serve his community surfaced again as
he was appointed to serve on the Board of Zoning Appeals for the City of
Westlake, where he continues to serve as Secretary of the Board today.
Greenspan also serves on the Government Relations Committee for the Beck
Center for Performing Arts as well as on The Glen’s Home Owners
Association Board as Secretary.
Greenspan is working with Ohio State Representative Nan Baker
(OH-16) on House Bill 437. The bill, H.B. 437 would enact a
nonrefundable tax credit for a business that adds jobs and expands into a
vacant facility. The intent behind this legislation is to encourage both
existing and prospective companies to house their businesses within a
vacant facility.
Greenspan brings with him an abundance of both public policy
and private business experience that will serve the people of District 1
with seasoned representation and visionary leadership.
